More Chinese Holidays

Two more Chinese holidays have occurred this past month. We just finished up with one that lasted three days. The latest holiday is the equivalent of the US version of Independence Day. This is China’s 59 year since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The official holiday is Oct. 1. Many Chinese people take the entire week off and travel to various parts of China. We stayed home this time, being between big vacations and enjoyed time as a family. Last Friday night we saw some great fireworks from our balcony, a part of the International Fireworks Festival.

The other holiday happened a few weeks ago and is called the Mid-Autumn Festival. We had only one day off for this holiday. This is a holiday that is spent for most Chinese at home with the family enjoying a large meal topped off with some moon cakes. We also partook in this part of the tradition, with some untraditional moon cake from Haagen-Daz. A very good choice, as these moon cakes were great, far better than any of the traditional moon cakes we tried.

Olympic tickets

Here is an example of one of the Olympic tickets. There was a lot of problems with people scalping fake tickets for very high prices.
