Meet our driver...Mr. He

The kids and Mr. He

We are back on-line finally getting into our house and getting settled overall...more on that fun in a future blog (also pictures have been added to previous entries on our fun flight!!).  First meet our driver Mr. He (pronounced "Huh").  We were nervous about who we might be given knowing it was to be one of our first impressions of our China experience.  At the airport Mr. He eagerly greeted us, immediately going to work on the kids names, and would not let us lift a finger to help with our many luggages.  It was a good start.  Since then Mr. He has been great.   He knows some English, but every drive is filled with teaching of English and Chinese back and forth.  My vocabulary is already 20-30 words that can be remembered with many more in progress.  The kids and Mr. He get along great and it is obvious that he loves their eager attitudes.  Tanner's first Chinese friendMr. He and Tanner have formed a special bond, started on the second day when we did our house walkthrough, they traded English and Chinese words for many items throughout the house.  Now they have a special handshake and Tanner dubbed Mr. He his "first Chinese friend".   Mr. He has a 15 year old daughter, who wrote us note in English explaining that Mr. He would like to offer his help in our move if we needed it.  He also gave us some wine as a house warming gift, along with some words of congratulations that he had practiced.  Relationships are very important in this country and our relationship with our driver has started very well.  We hope it continues.  I will say it is strange having a driver.  You feel like you have to hurry in the store or feel bad if you are late leaving the house while he sits in the driveway.  However, it is their job and I suppose we will get used to it.  Certainly is nice being dropped off at the door at work instead of walking two blocks from the parking garage...
